Important notice: WestJet pilot strike

To our valued customers,

The union representing WestJet and Swoop pilots issued a 72-hour strike notice on May 15; and pilots could strike on Friday May 19, which may cause flight cancellations or delays.

This situation is now considered a known event and may impact travel insurance purchased, and trips booked after May 15 2023.

In a statement, WestJet indicated that any passenger impacted would be “refunded or re-accommodated, as applicable.”

In the event of a disruption, we recommend impacted travellers take the following action

  • Contact WestJet or Swoop first for information about refunds or other accommodations
  • If you have purchased travel insurance, review your policy or certificate to see if you have coverage for Trip Cancellation due to a strike. There may be benefits for prepaid or non-refundable expenses not covered by the airline or other travel suppliers. Be sure to obtain documentation from the airline or travel supplier as proof these expenses are not eligible for refunds or compensation.
  • Once these steps are complete, submit your claim via the Allianz online claims portal
  • We will assess each claim individually in accordance with the terms and conditions of your policy or certificate

Disputes over refunds and credits should be directed to your travel service provider, transportation carrier or the Canadian Transportation Agency.

Thank you.
